Escape From Screen: a game for viewers, right on the stream
An OBS overlay where Twitch viewers create characters and go on raids along the bottom edge of the screen while the streamer plays as usual.
- Project
- Dev4U's own product
- Made for
- Twitch streamers and their viewers
- Timeline
- First version in two weeks, August 2026
- Stack
- TypeScript, React, PixiJS, Node.js, WebSocket, PostgreSQL

The task
Streamers want viewers to take part, not just watch, and to stay on the stream longer. Ordinary overlays show donations and subscriptions but give the chat nothing to do together.
The overlay had to connect as a link in OBS with nothing to install, keep the game and the webcam clear, and hold the chat's attention on its own.
What was built
- OBS overlay: a strip along the bottom of the screen where viewers' pixel fighters walk; added as a Browser source by link
- Real-time simulation on the server: spawn queue, loot from crates, XP, levels and a combat model, streamed to the overlay over WebSocket
- Twitch sign-in with no extra permissions: the site only receives the login and the avatar
- A world page for viewers: raids, stash and backpack, selling loot, a gear shop unlocked by level, a change of looks
- Streamer dashboard: difficulty, a cap on characters on the map, moderators, bans with a reason, coin giveaways and a wipe for a new season
- Bosses and assaults on a button or on a DonationAlerts donation; channel points exchange for coins
- Original pixel art for characters, weapons and items, baked into a sprite atlas
- Interface in Russian and English
The result
The first version was built in two weeks in August 2026 and runs at escapefromscreen.com. It is free to connect: the streamer signs in with Twitch, adds the link to OBS and shares the link to their world with viewers.
A streamer's world is active while they are live with the overlay connected, and whatever viewers extract from raids waits in their stash until the next stream.
